I was so excited when Borrowed and Blue, a locally-focused online wedding resource, reached out to me with a Q&A to give couples everything they need to know about our event planning services. Feel free to answer some of the questions yourselves in the comments!
Here’s our Q&A with Borrowed & Blue: If you could possibly narrow it down, what would be your favorite moment of a wedding day? My favorite moment has to be the bride and groom’s first kiss as husband and wife. It’s such a special moment of both relief and elation as everything they’ve been planning for months has finally come to fruition and they get to walk away facing life together as one in Him. Describe your event aesthetic in three words. Elegant. Personal. Custom. The first thing you ask when you sit down with a couple? The first thing I usually ask is, “What do you want your wedding to feel like?” This gives me a solid foundation on which to build their custom aesthetic in a way that shows off who they are as a couple and helps them remember their day as just very “them.” Top three pieces of advice for couples who just got engaged? GET A COORDINATOR! Set a specific budget (and stick to it). And think big picture! I always love when a bride tells me what she wants people to remember about her big day and trusts me with the details to make it happen. What’s your favorite thing about your job? My favorite thing about what I do is knowing I’ve played even a small part in bringing a bride’s vision to life. Many women have dreamed of their wedding day their entire lives, and knowing I helped make her dream a reality gives me a fulfillment unlike any other. What’s the best thing about having your wedding in Birmingham? The best thing about having a wedding in Birmingham is that it’s so convenient to big city OR intimate country. There are so many upscale, chic venues downtown as well as beautiful, rustic barns right outside the city—and many others in between. It doesn’t matter what your style is, Birmingham has the perfect venue! Most important detail of wedding decor? I would say it depends on the couple. I’ve had brides whose main focus is the music, while others is décor. Mine was definitely the food (your girl can eat!). Whatever is most important to the bride and groom becomes what is most important to me. The celebrity wedding you wish yo planned? Witney Carson’s winter nuptials, hands down! That Rivini gown…the rustic-elegant aesthetic…those beautiful jewel tones…drooling over here! Your thoughts on DIY weddings? I think DIY touches add so much personality to a wedding; but when every detail is DIY, it can be very overwhelming! Don’t try to overreach and DIY things like food or flowers. Leave that to the professionals and stick to things like programs and favors…you’ll be happy you did! What would your ideal tablescape look like? I love a runner made of lush flowers bedded by lots of greenery, ornate flatware and white china atop a stunning charger, surrounded by assorted candlesticks, all anchored by a beautiful wooden table. What has been your most unique request from a client? I once had a bride ask if we could design a Star Wars themed reception. I was actually super bummed when I never heard back from her! Your favorite of all the Birmingham wedding venues? It’s impossible to pick a favorite! I will say, though, that venues with lots of wood and white make for the perfect backdrop for anyone’s style. Tell the story of the biggest day-of disaster and how you swooped in to save the day. I arrived at one wedding as a day-of coordinator and the bride had purchased wholesale flowers (a great option!), but had no one to arrange them. My team and I got to work, and I have to say...those centerpieces turned out better than we could have expected! Her wedding was so beautiful. The most important part of wedding planning? I think the most important part of wedding planning is choosing a planner. You need someone who understands the stresses of wedding planning and is in tune to what is important to you. If you have that, you don’t have to stress about anything! Describe your dream wedding. My dream wedding would be an exhilarating night full of great food, special details, amazing decor, and fun dancing with my favorite people! Thanks again to Borrowed & Blue for the Q&A! -Kelsea
